Welcome to the Scout Section.
Introduction to Scouts
'Scouting has given me a fantastic opportunity to do lots of activities and things that people who are not in Scouts don’t get to do. It’s about having fun with good friends. I’ve just been selected to go the World Scout Jamboree in Sweden and that’s going to be awesome.’
Scouts are the third section of the Scouting movement. From the first experimental camp for 20 boys in 1907, the movement now has an estimated 28 million members worldwide, and in the UK alone there are over 499,000 boys and girls involved in Scouting. An increase in adult volunteers means that more and more young people are now able to take part in their own big adventure.
Scout Troop Report – April 2009 to March 2010
The Troop, like the rest of the sections in the Group, has taken part in most of the District activities; swimming, bowling and cooking (the competition we host).
We have also been working on entering a team in the Rowe Flag Camping Competition. This is based on traditional camping skills, something we rarely do as most of the time we camp in ‘hike’ tents. The Scouts went to Boarfold campsite for a ‘back-to-basics’ style camp, sleeping in 6-man ridge tents and cooking for their own patrols. All enjoyed the weekend and the program since has been based on Scouting skills; cooking on wood fires, making shelters etc.
The Troop numbers are slowly building back up after 10 scouts moved up to the Explorer section. With this we have also extended the leadership team; Darren & Paul (when not at sea) have been joined by Rob and Adam. More Leaders means we are able to run a more exciting programme. Such as raft building at Dunham Park Camp Site.
First the Scouts built the rafts at the HQ before transporting them to the pond at Dunham. One had to be rebuilt on arrival but all managed to float (some better than others!). One thing was guaranteed; everyone got wet and everyone had a great night.
Thanks go to all the Leaders and parents who helped with transport etc.
